Fiberglass grating – GRP.
Built to last.
For many people, swimming in the sea is associated with summer, freedom and community. But for people with wheelchairs or other mobility problems, the easy route from the beach to the water is often a major obstacle – and can sometimes even feel like an impossibility. To change that, a brand new accessible jetty was built in Malmö last year – a jetty that extends from the beach, far out into the sea.
The idea of an accessible jetty became a reality, but a major challenge remained: finding a material that could withstand daily contact with water, year after year, without compromising safety and durability.
The solution: fiberglass decking from Safestep
Fiberglass is a material that combines the best of both worlds. Where wood risks rotting and steel is attacked by rust, fiberglass can withstand salt spray, sun and constant stress. It’s as safe under bare feet on a hot summer day as it is under wheelchair wheels on a windy fall day. And because it’s both lightweight and strong, it’s easy to install, while still being able to bear heavy loads year after year.
- Slip-resistant – a safe surface for both bare feet and tools, even when the dock is wet.
- Corrosion-free – resists salt water, sun and weather better than both steel and wood.
- Lightweight and strong – easy to assemble but built to carry heavy loads
- Long life – a sustainable investment for municipalities, associations and future bathers.
All this adds up to a solution that not only lasts over time, but also requires minimal maintenance. A material choice that lets more people feel the freedom of the sea – without compromise.
