Come to Yasuragi for an extraordinary experience. To relax, unwind and find zen mode. Once changed and ready, you slip into a steaming hot outdoor pool, surrounded by snow-capped trees and crisp winter air. Your shoulders slump, your heart rate drops, and you exhale for the first time in a long time. It’s stillness. It’s zen – until you step out of the bath.

Suddenly, it’s not just calm you lose, but also your footing. Icy slabs and wet feet are not the best combination, and a slip and fall was hardly part of the relaxing spa experience you signed up for. But there you are, with your back to the snow-covered ground, wondering if it’s the birds chirping or your head howling.

No, of course it’s not like that. Yasuragi, being the professionals they are, make sure they are always one step ahead.

Snow and ice free – step by step.

Before winter really hit, Yasuragi ordered about twenty heating mats from us at Safestep, which they installed neatly and damn neatly around the outdoor spa area. On the stairs are series-connected step mats in size 27x95cm, and on the walkways to, from and around the pools are heating mats in size 60x100cm as a warm and comfortable runner on the cold stone. On the larger mats, they have also installed a soft rubber mat that removes all the seams and cords – a solution that we will definitely take inspiration from.

Instead of shoveling, salting and worrying about slipping spa guests, they chose a much smoother route: electrically heated snow melting mats. Now they’re there, discreetly and cleverly, around the pools, on the stairs and walkways – making sure every step is as safe as it is relaxing. All for the zen mode of guests.
