The icebreaker Oden.
Corrosion resistant fiberglass grating.
No matter the conditions.
The icebreaker Oden is not like other icebreakers. She is bigger, heavier and one of the premier research platforms in the polar seas. Oden is and will always be special, as she was the first non-nuclear powered vessel to reach the North Pole. For us, she is, and always will be, a little extra special, as she is the first ship to which we delivered our fiberglass can.
New times, new material choices.
Fiberglass has many technical advantages that lend themselves to marine environments. It is a lightweight material with the same strength as steel, but corrosion-free, maintenance-free and resistant to salt, chemicals, oil, hot heat and biting cold. Steel is difficult to challenge in many cases, but in demanding environments, fiberglass is superior. To put it bluntly, few environments are as demanding as an icebreaker at the North Pole.
When the old steel grating corroded and no longer met safety requirements, it was only natural to replace it with fiberglass grating. And once it was clear that it was our fiberglass grating that would replace the old one, we might as well recommend a grating with a non-slip surface. And so it was! Concave fiberglass gratings with load-bearing capacity in all directions, easy to cut, process and install – non-slip and completely maintenance-free.
