Enköping City Hall.
Tactile guide path made of stainless steel with a black PVD coating - Safestep Svartbäcken.
Lead the way—all the way.
When accessibility doesn’t stop at the entrance.
When Enköping’s new city hall took shape, the decision was made not to settle for “good enough.” Instead, they chose to create something that works—truly and for the long term—and it doesn’t stop at a single solution. The entire project is characterized by the same ambition—from accessibility to sustainability and certifications.
In many buildings, a tactile guide path leads you from the entrance to the nearest reception desk, possibly to a restroom, and maybe an elevator. Then it ends. Here, they thought much further ahead than that!
The tactile guide path in Enköping’s new municipal building runs through the entire ground floor—from the entrance, past the turnstile, to the reception desk, on to the restroom, and all the way to visitor rooms and offices. A complete flow, not just a one-off measure. Some might think it’s overkill. Of courseit’s necessary , we say! Foranyone who needs to navigate without the aid of sight, a tactile guide path isn’t just a detail—it’s often absolutely crucial. And here, they’ve made it easy to get it right—all the way around.
Stainless steel guide rails with a black PVD coating in titanium.
The choice of product reflects the same approach as the rest of the building; Safestep Svartbäcken in stainless steel with a black PVD coating for high contrast and durability, mounted directly on the wooden floor, which provides clear visual guidance and a look that stands the test of time. Not the cheapest option—but the one that best suits the building!
The result is a municipal building where more people can move around independently. Where accessibility isn’t something you add on—but something you build in.
We had the honor of being part of making this solution possible. But the decision to fully implement it? That was CF Møller and Skanska.
